Horsley Herald Term 1 Week 7
Congratulations!
Meet the Teacher Afternoon
Thank you to all our wonderful families who attended the Meet The Teacher BBQ on Wednesday 8th March. So many families enjoyed the opportunity to come up to school to chat with staff, purchase second hand uniforms, walk through our beautiful school and of course enjoy a sausage sizzle! Thank you to everyone who was able to attend! The feedback was overwhelmingly positive from staff and families alike!
If you were unable to attend the afternoon, I encourage you to call the school and make a time to chat with your child/rens teacher.
Communicating with You
We need to be able to connect with all families. Please use the Horsley Park Public School Facebook page or the SZapp to receive messages and to keep up to date with our school news.

Curriculum Reform
The NSW education system is reforming the curriculum which will be taught in all classrooms from Kindergarten to Year 12. The new curriculum, as a result of the NSW Curriculum Reform, will give students more time to focus on key learning areas so that they can acquire a deeper understanding of central concepts. It will ensure students develop strong foundations for learning, life and work in a complex and fast-changing world.
This reform has been informed by extensive consultation with teachers, parents and education experts, and is underpinned by extensive research. Curriculum reform involves change that spans many aspects of schooling, including teaching, learning, assessment and reporting to parents. New syllabuses provide schools with a unique opportunity to re-focus and place curriculum at the heart of school planning. Key curriculum changes include building strong foundations for future learning with new English and mathematics syllabuses for Kindergarten to Year 2 being implemented from 2023, and for Year 3 to Year 6 from 2024.
The new curriculum will ensure every student develops strong foundations for learning, life and work. The reforms are vital for the young people in our schools today, and for those who will arrive in the years to come. More information can be found on the NSW Department of Education and NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) websites.
Attendance Matters
WOW!!! Congratulations Horsley Park Public School!

Attendance matters at Horsley Park Public School. Let keep this up!
Attendance Matters
Regular attendance at school is essential for students to achieve quality life outcomes. Schools, in partnership with parents, are responsible for promoting the regular attendance of students.
On occasion, your child may need to be absent from school for reasons such as being sick, having an infectious disease or having an unavoidable medical appointment. Please contact the school to provide an explanation if your child is absent.
Parents and carers, you are required to provide a doctor’s certificate if your child is away for 3 or more days. Horsley Park Community, let’s work together to make regular attendance a priority at our school.

Mrs Tanevski on Leave
I would like to inform the school community that as from Monday 13th March I will be taking leave from school until Friday 18th August. Mrs Tracy Sweeney will step in as your Relieving Principal at Horsley Park Public School during my absence. Horsley Park Public School is in good hands. Tracy is an outstanding school leader and is looking forward to working with the whole school community. I look forward to seeing you all again in Term 3. Take care.
Mrs Anica Tanevski
Principal
Dear Parents and Carers,
Monday marks my official starting date as relieving Principal while Mrs Tanevski is on leave and I couldn’t be more excited after taking the opportunity to meet the amazing staff and your gorgeous children on Thursday. I am looking forward to getting to know more about each of the students over the coming weeks.
I come to you as the current Deputy Principal and have relieved as Principal of Prairievale Public School, just down the road in Bossley Park. I appreciate that you entrust your children to us to educate and guide them every day and will return that trust to you with an unwavering focus on ‘excellence and equity’ through the quality of teaching and learning in our school. Please know that my door is always open. No one knows your child better than you so I value your opinion and welcome your conversation and positive input to support student learning and wellbeing. I look forward to celebrating our collective successes during the next 5 months at Horsley.
I would like to draw your attention to ways to reinforce learning at home. You can now access the NSW Student Learning Library. The resources are aligned with new syllabuses and have been quality assured by educational professionals within the department. The library currently contains K-2 English and Mathematics learning resources. The remaining learning resources for our older years are to be released over the next few years aligned to the new NSW syllabus rollout.
Resources can be found here:
Our year 3 and 5 students will be sitting their NAPLAN assessments next week on Wednesday and Thursday. Students sit assessments in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. NAPLAN allows you to see how your child is progressing against national standards and over time. NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process. It doesn’t replace ongoing assessments made by our teachers about student performance, but it can provide teachers with additional information about students’ educational progress.
Once again thank you to the staff and students for the warm welcome and I look forward to engaging and working with the Horsley Park learning community.
Mrs Tracy Sweeney
