Horsley Herald Term 3 Week 8 2022
Term 3 Week 8 - 6th September
Dear Parents/Carers,
Each year we celebrate the contribution of support staff to the success of the school and to all students’ education. This year, more than ever, whether they work in the office, the library, the school grounds, supporting the wellbeing
of students or in the classroom, all school support staff have played an important role at Horsley Park Public School. These staff members are at the heart of our community, connecting with and supporting everyone.
They have moved swiftly to roll out rapid antigen tests to students, maintained important COVID-19 records, worked on providing the best possible facilities for students and staff, as well as ensuring the essential functions of our school are maintained and vulnerable students supported in the classroom throughout these turbulent times. The commitment and perseverance of our members to their school communities has been nothing short of remarkable. Our SAS Staff are:
School Administration Manager: Mrs Martin
School Administration Officer: Ms Bertovic
School Learning Support Officers: Mrs Zammit, Mrs Borg, Mrs Payer, Mrs Orecchio, Ms Marchetta, Miss Chloe, Mrs Armstrong, Mrs Sidiqa, Mrs Awad
Community Liasion Officer: Mrs Awad
General Assistant: Mr Charlie Bezzina
THANK YOU!
I would like to thank the P and C who gave up their time to assist with running the Father’s Day Stall on Friday 2nd September. I would also like to thank the all students, parents and teachers who supported the Father’s Day stall. The event was successful and students were happy.

This program develops water confidence and provides students with basic skills in water safety and survival. The program is conducted over 10 consecutive days. Each daily lesson is approximately 45 minutes. Students who have not reached a satisfactory standard of water safety and survival skills, and are unable to swim 25m confidently unaided in deep water, are eligible to participate in this excellent swimming and water safety program. The program focuses on developing proficient swimmers in Year 2 to 6 and all abilities are catered for.
If you would like your child to participate in this program please return the form and payment to the office.
Covid/Flu
We continue to have positive cases of COVID-19 at school. Please also be aware that there is significant transmission of influenza in our community. It is impacting students, staff and families. It can take more than one week to recover. We remind families to keep students at home until they are symptom free for 24 hours.
Guidelines require that any student or staff member who is unwell and/or displays symptoms of COVID-19 will be asked to go home and stay there until they can complete a RAT or PCR test.
• If symptoms continue, they should stay at home and take another RAT in 24 hours or have a PCR test.
• If the second RAT or initial PCR test result is negative, the student or staff member can return to school.
• In NSW, positive COVID-19 cases are provided a Medical Clearance Notice after 7 days and allowed to leave self-isolation as long as they do not have COVID-19 symptoms. During this current surge all members of the school community are encouraged to wear masks indoors and physically distance to reduce the spread.
Parents, carers and school community should refer to the Close contacts section of the Advice for families page and NSW Health guidelines.Thank you for your ongoing support in keeping our school community safe.
EVERYDAY MATHS HUB
The Everyday maths hub is an engaging and dynamic online platform for parents and carers of children in Kindergarten through to Year 10. The hub aims to support and encourage family conversations about the relevance and usefulness of mathematics in everyday life. It is part of the NSW Mathematics Strategy to achieve the Premier’s
vision, 'for all NSW students to develop the mathematical skills they need to succeed in life'.
The Hub was designed in consultation with our teachers, parents and carers and can support parents and carers in empowering their children to think critically and creatively, find and solve problems, and notice and wonder about the mathematics in the world around them. The aim of the hub is to help parents and carers connect with their children through mathematics.
