NAIDOC Week
NAIDOC Week celebration - this is happening on Wednesday 14th July (Week 1 Term 3). This year the theme is Heal Country. NAIDOC Week is a time to reflect and celebrate the culture, history and achievement of First Nation Peoples. Students will be engaged in learning all day about Aboriginal culture and history and assembly to start the day off. Please see the information provided in this newsletter. We look forward to parents/carers joining us on this day.
Bronze & Silver Awards
What a fabulous way to end Term 2. Today we celebrated and acknowledged students at Horsley Park PS who strive and demonstrate our school's postive behaviour for learning expectations. These wonderful students have achieved Bronze and Silver Awards and are safe, respectful and active learners.
Congratulations to James, Nicholas, Mackenzie, Leonel, Sebastian, Chris, Lilly-Rose, Ryan, Mikaela, Braxton, Tommy and Jake. We are so proud of you!
Highlights of my day..
It is always wonderful to see all the amazing learning that our students engage in each and every day. I love it when students visit the office to share their work so proudly.
Fairfield Aboriginal Girl’s Healing Dance Group Term 2
I am pleased to acknowledge and showcase the Fairfield Aboriginal Girl’s Healing Dance Group in this newsletter edition. This group was formed as a project initiative of Fairfield City Council’s Grant Program ‘Social Change through Creativity’.
Tammy Close was one of the recipients to receive funding to deliver her project, ‘Strengthening the Foundation of Aboriginal Storytelling through Community Engagement, Creative Writing and Cultural Dance Workshops’.
Over the last 9 weeks, Tammy has collaborated with 5 Fairfield local government area Public Schools, Horsley Park, Bossley Park, Fairvale, Prairievale and William Stimson; which brought 15 Aboriginal female students together for rehearsals every week at Bossley Park Public School’s Hall.
The girls have not only enjoyed gaining more experience in Aboriginal contemporary dance but have improved in their confidence of who they are as talented Aboriginal students. They have developed a special bond with Tammy and created strong friendships that will continue as a result of these workshops.
I would like to give a special shout out to Elizabeth, Izabella and Karli who represented our school so proudly each week at rehearsals and had the opprtunity to perform at our local schools in Term 2.
The theme of their dance comes from this years NAIDOC theme ‘Heal Country’ and the song they will be performing to is ‘Aboriginal Land’ by Nadeena Dixon.

Student Leader Report

This week we had our PBL celebration Movie Day. All the students enjoyed watching their chosen movies and devouring deliciously on salted popcorn.
An exciting time has come!
All the Year 6 students were given their Year 6 shirts. They look fabulous and they are super comfortable. On the same day we had a special taco lunch provided for by the school canteen. We each received a hard and soft taco and a super sour drink.
This week is the last week of term 2!
Please enjoy the school holidays and remember to be safe, respectful and active learners.

Year 6 Report
Our Year 6 students are now rocking their beautiful Year 6 Graduation Shirts. Some of our teachers and SLSOs have also joined in on the trend and are showing off their Horsley colours too! The collared shirts feature a "Class of 2021" graduation cap graphic at the front as well as the names of our cohort on the back. All Year 6 students were sized up and have their shirts available for purchase from the office for a cost of $33.
In other news, Bunnings has made a very generous donation valued up to $200 for our Year 6 Winter Fundraiser. We have been lucky to receive a Jumbuck Firepit as well as a huge bag of firewood and we are currently selling tickets for a raffle to be drawn early next term. Please support this fundraiser by purchasing your tickets. They are $5 for a booklet of 12, or 50 cents each.
Next term's fundraiser will be a school Pizza Day. Students will have the opportunity to pre-order or purchase slices of delicious pizza which will be sold on the day. Expect more information about this fundraiser early next term!
We wish all our our families a wonderful winter holiday.
