Horsley Herald Term 1 Week 2 2021
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome Back !
Welcome back to 2021 and to the first edition of the 2021 school newsletter that is published fortnightly. This newsletter will keep you informed about the many exciting activities that your children are involved in so look out for it every second Friday. It was fantastic to see so many excited faces returning to school. We extend a very
special welcome to those new families joining us at Horsley Park Public School for the first time in 2021, especially those whose children are starting in Kindergarten.
COVID Regulations - Term 1, 2021
Parents and carers are still restricted from entering onto school sites except for the following purposes only:
- Parents and carer meetings with teachers and/or school executives with an appointment.
- Pick up of students from the school office when children are sick or need to
leave the school early. - Parents and carers who need to be on-site for uniform purchases at the
uniform shop.
If parents need to come onto the school site for the above reasons they will be
required to come to the school office and use the QR code for COVID tracing purposes. Any visitor will need to also sign in using the “Visitor Sign In” book at the office.
Good Hygiene
We will continue to implement good hygiene practices including;
- Regular hand washing or sanitising
- Not sharing food or personal items
- Staying at home if unwell.
Even with the mildest symptoms students must be COVID tested and provide evidence of a negative test before returning to school.
All the staff at Horsley Park Public School are very excited about the start of the new
school year. During this term we are working on the new Strategic Improvement
Plan that will help shape the directions and the priorities of our school for the
next four years. We will be seeking your valuable input through online and
paper forms over the next few weeks as the plan is being developed.
Congratulations!
Congratulations to our hardworking P&C and Canteen Volunteers who work tirelessly to make sure our school canteen is a healthy and to the best standards.

Dear Horsley Park families,
Welcome to Term one of 2021. This term I have had the privilege of working with K/6 Platypus as well as coordinating STEM initiatives within our school.
K/6 Platypus has settled in very well. We have been completing a book study on Wombat Stew by Marcia Vaughan. Students have enjoyed learning about the different characters particularly the platypus.
I look forward to working with all our students this year to further develop their creativity and problem solving skills in my role as STEM coordinator.

Mindfulness: the basics
Our minds are constantly active. You might be watching television – but also thinking about the past, or worrying about something, or wondering what you’re going to have for dinner.
Mindfulness is about stilling your active mind. It has been defined in several ways, including:
- giving your complete attention to the present on a moment-by-moment basis
- paying attention in a particular way, on purpose, in the present moment, without judgment.
It’s about being more aware as you live and experience each moment – as the moment happens. It can be a useful way of calming yourself, focusing and concentrating on what you’re doing.
You can be mindful of your internal world – for example, sensations, breath and emotions. Or you can focus on what’s around you – for example, sights, sounds and smells.
You can be mindful anywhere and with anything. For example, you can be mindful while you’re eating, walking, listening to music or sitting.

This year we will be continuing to collect bread tags for Aussie bread tags for wheelchairs. We will also be introducing some new collections later in the term to help us ensure that we save as much from landfill as possible in our area. Stay tuned for more details to come!
