Horsley Herald Term 4 Week 3
Dear Parents and Caregiver,
I would like to acknowledge and thank our wonderful teachers, as they serve a vital role in our society; they act as mentors, experts and role models for future generations. On Friday 30th October, 2020 we celebrated 'World Teacher's Day' at Horsley Park Public School. How fortunate are we to have dedicated teachers who go above and beyond and do the extraordinary work that they do for our children.
Kinder enrolments
Kindergarten Orientation
Thank you to our new 2021 kindergarten students and families for your patience and understanding during these unprecedented times around kindergarten orientation. Our fortnightly orientation information will be mailed out this week to all our new kindergarten students, so please look out for your 'kindy gift activity' and an updated kindegraten orientation video will be realeased as well. We thank you for your understanding and look forward to meeting all of our new kindy students very soon.
Are you moving?
If you are moving out of the area please inform the school as soon as possible.
2020 Presentation Day
We will be holding our Presentation Day on Wednesday 9th December. Unfortunately due to COVID-19 restrictions no parents will be able to attend. We are currently looking into video options for this event. The ceremony will only be short but we are hoping to provide an opportunity for award recipient parents to see students presented with their award. We will keep you informed of how we can achieve this successfully.
Thank you for your understanding
Online Enrolment System – NSW Department of Education
Our school has an online enrolment system.
The Online Enrolment System is designed to provide flexibility for our parents to submit an enrolment application online and at the time that best suits you. The application can be accessed on all browsers and mobile devices including iOS and Android.
The online application process is currently restricted to:
- Enrolments into local schools only
- Children who are Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens or permanent residents
- Children who live in NSW.
We offer our support and encourage you to complete your application to enrol online. If, however, you do not feel comfortable completing an application online, a paper copy will be available for collection from the front office or can be downloaded from the Department’s going to a public school site
Further information about online enrolment can be found on our website via the link below:
OC Test Reminder
Please see the department’s website for updated information regarding the OC test for 2020. Changes have been made due to COVID-19
Selective High School Placement 2022 (Year 5 students in 2020)
Selective high schools cater for academically gifted students with high potential who may otherwise be without sufficient classmates at their own academic standard. Selective high schools help these students to learn by grouping them with students of similar ability, and by using specialised teaching methods.
Applications for selective high school placement are considered mainly on the basis of the Selective High School Placement Test results and school assessment scores. The Selective High School Placement Test will be held on Thursday 11 March 2021.
If you would like to have your child considered for Year 7 selective high school entry in 2022, you need to apply on the internet using a valid email address (not the student’s email address).
Detailed instructions on how to apply online are available at the link below:
The application website opens at that link on the 13th of October 2020 and closes on the 16th of November 2020. You must apply before the closing date. There are no paper application forms. If you do not have internet access, you could apply at a public library. If you have a disability that prevents you from using a computer, you can contact the High Performing Students Team for assistance after the 13th of October 2020.

Mindfulness Matters…
Practicing gratitude is a great way to connect with meaningful memories, feel happier and have increased levels of satisfaction in life. Practicing gratitude doesn’t have to be difficult. Spending time each day to think of five things that you are grateful for can have many benefits.
Give it a try. What are you grateful for today?

P&C News
We have been busy the last few weeks getting our fundraisers out.
Our Krispy Kreme’s fundraiser was a success selling 38 boxes and making $304.
Doughnuts can be collected on 6th November after 3pm from the canteen.
Our mango fundraiser has just finished. Thank you to all who have supported both of our fundraisers. The mangoes will be ready for delivery in December we will notify when they are arriving.
With the money we have made from our fundraisers we have used it to purchase a new fridge for canteen, so we have space for our fun days and all our refrigerated stock. Next up is a canteen revamp!!
We have been working on a better menu for canteen. Hopefully, that will be out in the next week or two!!
We are having a special lunch on Thursday the 26th of November so keep your eye out for a note to send orders back.
Christmas is under 9 weeks away!! We are now collecting donations for our Christmas raffle. If you are able to donate anything big or small, please get in contact with us.
Help needed!
Are you a business owner, bookkeeper, accountant or good with finances?
The P&C needs someone independent to volunteer a couple of hours of their time between now and February to review the transactions of the P&C and confirm the books are in order.
If you or someone you know might be able to help, please get in touch.
You can follow us on Facebook for regular updates - Horsley Park Public School P &. C Association.
