Celebrating National Science Week
National Science Week provides an opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of Australian scientists to the world of knowledge. It also aims to encourage an interest in science pursuits among the general public, and to encourage younger people to be fascinated by the world we live in.
As part of National Science Week this year, our students and staff particpated in Science Day last Thursday 14th August enjoying a full day of learning about science and technology. The day commenced with a highly engaging whole school Watermelon Challenge. Our students and staff had lots of fun having the opportunity to add elastic bands around a watermelon. Finally after 470 elastic bands.. the watermelon emploded. Throughout the day students engaged in a variety of exciting activities, experiments using scientific equipment and technology to learn. A big thank you to our wonderful Science and Technology Team for the day's organisation, we all had a wonderful day celebrating Science Week 2020.

Tell Them From Me parent survey:
Information for parents and carers
Centre for Education Statistics and Evaluation
Dear Parents and Carers
This Term, our school will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement.
Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements.
The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, iPads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted over Term 3 and early Term 4. Although participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated.
More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au. To access the survey for our school go to: http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/xj867
The survey is available in 23 languages.

While the challenge is not compulsory, I highly encourage all our 3-6 students to have a go. Mrs Leearna Borg
Hello families,
Students at Horsley Park Public School have been taking part in the Premier’s Reading Challenge.
Kindergarten to Year 2 students read books from the PRC book list. These books are read and discussed during class and our Library Lessons throughout the year and are logged at school.
Students in Years 3 to 6 have the opportunity to select books and read them independently. They also have books from the PRC book list read collaboratively as a class and during Library Lessons. Premiers Reading Challenge closes 28th August 2020!
Just a reminder that the Scholastic Book Fair has arrived at our school. The Scholastic Book Fair is a great way for students to engage in quality texts.
I would like to encourage you to make any purchases through Scholastic online. Every purchase you make earns our school Learning and Literacy resources.

Hi Horsley Park families,
In 4/5/6 Primrose we have been busy preparing and organising our Peer Support lessons for 2020. On Tuesday in week 3, students in Year 5 and Year 6 participated in Peer Support training with both Mrs Tanevski and Miss Pavez. The day included fun games which focused on building important skills such as communication and team work. It was great fun watching how the kids worked together during the activities!
On Thursday week 3, students had their first Peer Support lesson. I am extremely proud of 5/6 and the leadership skills they have shown throughout this time and how well they have taken on their roles!
